Each day a different image or photograph of a NEVADA meteorite will be featured, along with a
brief explanation written by a meteorite-recovery expert.
2004 April 30
Name of Nevada Meteorite: NOT Formally Approved, YET - but a provisional name has been assigned.
Classification: (pending) - Ordinary Chondrite
Credit: Image taken by Robert Verish, on November 4, 2003.
The above image shows this find still in-situ.!
Classification is still pending for this find - a Stony - Ordinary Chondrite - but it is a good example of an "in-situ" meteorite!
Also, this image shows that weathered chondritic stones can be found in a variety of conditions and shades of color.
Meteorite-recovery efforts are on-going at this locality. All new finds will be classified and cataloged, and will appear here in a future NvMetPOD!
A 1 centimeter cube-scale can be seen to the left of the stony in this image.
(Scale: cube is 1cubic cm)
Tomorrow's picture: POSTPONED - until next month.
